What the official KVK API offers

The KVK API is the authoritative source: straight from the Handelsregister, with a free search endpoint and paid profile endpoints. You pay €6.40 per month per API key for the connection and €0.02 per profile retrieved. Access is reserved for organisations with a Dutch registration; foreign companies without a Dutch presence cannot use the API directly.

In practice you build the layer around it yourself. Search and profiles are separate endpoints you have to combine, a search returns at most 1,000 results, and the search expects a (nearly) exact spelling of the name. That is not enough for a typeahead in a form.

Where Companize is different

One endpoint, one answer. Search by name or KVK number and get the complete profile as JSON: legal form, status, trade names, SBI codes, addresses and establishments. Add include=enrichment and the website, contact details, VAT number and key financials come back in the same response.

Real autocomplete. Typo-tolerant, ranked by relevance and answered in milliseconds. Your user types the first few letters and picks the right company; name, address and KVK number fill themselves in.

A price you know up front. Paying per lookup sounds cheap, but it quickly gets out of hand: an autocomplete that searches on every keystroke, a CRM enrichment run or a spike in signups, and the invoice is no longer predictable. With Companize you pay a fixed monthly fee with generous quotas, so you know what you will spend before you start. You begin free on the real dataset and scale up as your usage grows.

No Dutch entity required. Anyone can create an account, including international teams that need Dutch company data but cannot get access to the KVK API.

The same data, plus enrichment

Companize is built with data from several sources, including the Handelsregister. We collect the data ourselves, structure it into one consistent schema and refresh the data daily, so new registrations and updates are available quickly without you maintaining a pipeline.

On top of the register data we add what the KVK API does not provide: website, email addresses, phone numbers, social profiles, logo, employee count, revenue and total assets, officers and owners, registry publications and VAT validation through VIES.

When the KVK API remains the better choice

Do you have a Dutch registration, want nothing but register data straight from the source, and have the engineering capacity to build search, stitching and maintenance yourself? Then the official API is a fine choice. Companize is for teams that want the search quality, the convenience and the enrichment without building it themselves.
